Lifeboat requested for possible medical evacuation of male with serious medical problem on Holy Island. (Causeway closed – high tide, no helicopter available.) Ambulance crew taken by lifeboat from Seahouses. Patient assessed, and to be taken by road when causeway passable (approx 7.30am). A sea passage not considered suitable for the ill man. One ambulance crewman returned to Seahouses, the other remained with the casualty.

Two person in vehicle trapped, trying to cross flooded Holy Island Causeway, contrary to safe crossing times. Made their own way to the shore, very wet and cold, met by local coastguards. Lifeboat cancelled while on route by road with Station Landrover.

Fishing vessel “Quo Vadis” taking water in Seahouses Harbour, own pumps out of action. ILB crew transported the salvage pump from the All Weather Lifeboat by Landrover. Vessel quickly pumped out and leak repaired, minimising potential damage by sea water.

Craster Inshore Lifeboat capsized south of Craster Harbour while on exercise, and required immediate assistance. Both Lifeboats launched. Craster ILB recovered from shore by hand, crew airlifted to hospital - later released after treatment for minor injuries, mild hypothermia and shock.

Diver reported to have collapsed on a RIB off Beadnell, and being given CPR by crew on way to the shore, requesting urgent assistance. Both Lifeboats stood down after diver airlifted by RAF helicopter – pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Immediate launch of both lifeboats to “MAYDAY” call from a large yacht “”Thalassa” with three crew aboard, aground in fog on Longstone Island. Crew rescued and yacht recovered from rocks and towed to Seahouses Harbour. As hull was taking water, crew were called back to the yacht in the harbour, as its pumps had failed. Further assistance given by lifeboat crew. Yacht eventually lifted out in a boat cradle for repair assessment.

Two horses trapped on Fenwick Mudflats near Holy Island. Inshore Lifeboat launched as safety boat to support Coastguard Team. Then as tide rose, more resources requested. All Weather Lifeboat launched, with extra crew. Horse winched to safety by RAF Helicopter, a first for them.

Unconscious Diver aboard Seahouses Charter Boat “Ocean Express”, doctors attempting to resuscitate. Lifeboat crew assisted, providing additional oxygen and treated diver’s 12yr old son for shock. Diver successfully resuscitated by doctors (divers), and airlifted by RAF Helicopter to Wansbeck Hospital, Ashington with his son, then later transferred to Decompression Chamber at Hull for further treatment. 11 divers then brought ashore by lifeboat.

Coach with 38 elderly passengers, broken down on and blocking Holy Island Causeway, with 10 minutes till the end of the safe crossing time. Inshore Lifeboat taken by road, and 30 other vehicles found trapped in the queue behind the bus. Lifeboat Crew, with police and coastguards, escorted all to safety. Police and RAF Helicopters also deployed.
