1 Thu  Mar 6 5.27pm Two children cut off by breaking seas on breakwater gantry. Rescued and landed safely by ILB.  ILB only
2 Wed Mar 12 7.50pm Yacht "Lady Andorina", a 65ft sloop. reported taking water and in distress near Farne Islands. Call via mobile phone - no VHF radio due to electrical failure. Position given was vague, near Longstone Lighthouse. Yacht fired flares at request of Lifeboat, and located north of Farne Islands by Lifeboat and Helicopter. Situation stable, and yacht taken in tow to Seahouses. Four persons on board, on passage from River Tyne to Maryport (Cumbria). Mersey Lifeboat
3 Sat Mar 29 2.51pm Person reported in the water in difficulty off Stag Rocks at Bamburgh. ILB found a Kite Surfer who had lost his sail, and returned to the water to recover it. Not in difficulty - False alarm, good intent.  ILB only
4 Sun Apr 13 3.24pm Wind surfer reported in difficulties, broken mast, off Bamburgh Castle Golf Course. Had reached shore unaided on arrival of ILB. Given assistance on shore by ILB crew and local coastguards. ILB only
5 Sat May 3 5.41pm Female throws herself off Seahouses breakwater into harbour, suspected suicide attempt. rescued by ILB, and resuscitated by ILB crew, and given oxygen. Became violent and had to be restrained, while awaiting an ambulance. Police in attendance. ILB assisted by other crew on shore. ILB Only
6 Sun May 4 3.03pm Dive Boat "Deep Blue" suffers engine failure off Pinnacles, at Farne Islands. 11 persons on board. Towed back to Seahouses by Mersey Lifeboat, all persons landed safely. Mersey Lifeboat
7 Thu May 8 12.08am Suicidal lady returns, and jumps into harbour again (See Service no 5 above). Rescued again by ILB and handed to ambulance crew. ILB Only
8 Sun May 11 2.14pm Charter Boat "Guide Me" reported to Coastguard that a diver aboard was suffering Bends symptoms, and was returning forthwith to Seahouses. Lifeboat crew paged, but boat had reached the harbour, so crew treated casualty with oxygen, and transported him to the helicopter landing site in the station Landrover. Flown by seaking helicopter to decompression chamber. Crew and Landrover only
8a Sat May 25 3.21pm Humber Coastguard requested immediate launch of Seahouses Lifeboat to a "Bends" diver incident, but incident was in flanking station area. Incident redirected to Amble Lifeboat Station. Seahouses Crews stood down. Both Lifeboats
9 Tue May 27 1.45pm ILB requested to assist at Holy Island in search for a missing elderly lady. Lady found safe, ILB returned to station. ILB only
10 Sat Jun 7 4.35pm Dive RIB "Volante" broken down and disabled off Knivestone, Farne Islands, with five divers aboard. Towed to Seahouses by Mersey Lifeboat. Mersey Lifeboat
11 Sun Jun 8 12.45pm Dive RIB "Nerys" reports returning to Seahouses with a suspected "Bends" diver. Treated at Seahouses by Lifeboat Crew and transported him to the helicopter landing site in the station Landrover. Flown by Seaking helicopter to decompression chamber. Crew and Landrover only
12 Wed Jun 18 2.31pm "Mayday" call from an 8 metre ex-Navy Pinnace, which had mechanical failure 2 miles S/E of Seahouses Harbour. There were 4 persons on board, and it was believed that the boat had suffered either gearbox failure or lost its propeller. It was on passage from the Tyne to Seahouses, with its new owner. At the request of the Coastguard, the Inshore Lifeboat was launched, and took the vessel in tow to Seahouses for repair. ILB only
13 Sat Jun 21 12.04pm Medivac - female child had suffered a suspected fractured ankle, while visiting Staple Island, at the Farnes. Helicopters are not permitted over the islands, because of the risk of a bird strike, which could put the aircraft at risk. Seahouses Lifeboat was launched, and on arrival at Staple Island, the girl was given First Aid by the lifeboat crew, and placed in a stretcher with her ankle strapped and padded. Together with her parents, she was brought to Seahouses and handed over to an awaiting ambulance, which took her to Wansbeck Hospital for treatment. Mersey Lifeboat
14 Tue Jun 24 12.08pm Camper van with two occupants, had been cut off by the tide on Holy Island Causeway. Because the occupants were thought to be elderly, the Inshore Lifeboat was requested to launch. On reaching the causeway, a local tractor was in the process of towing the vehicle clear, and as the tide was falling, the Lifeboat stood by till the vehicle and occupants were safely ashore.  ILB only
15 Wed  Jun 25 5.12pm The 36ft motor cruiser, "White Phantom", had become snagged in lobster pot ropes at the Kettle Moorings, Inner Farne. The vessel's propellers were fouled and she was drifting towards rocks, with two persons on board. The lifeboat reached the casualty at 5.32pm, and took the casualty in tow and brought the vessel back to Seahouses.  Mersey Lifeboat
16 Sat Jun 28 12.26pm Dive boat "Odyssey" reported one of their divers had surfaced without safety decompression stops off Seahouses, from 30 metres, and was now suffering symptoms of the "Bends" (decompression sickness). Mersey Lifeboat took oxygen to the casualty, while a helicopter was dispatched. Lifeboat then stood by as an RAF Rescue Helicopter uplifted the diver. The casualty was then flown to the decompression chamber at Hull for treatment. Mersey Lifeboat
17 Sun Jul 06 12.02pm Diver with symptoms of the "Bends", at Beadnell Car Park. The Coastguard requested that Seahouses Lifeboat Crew attend the scene with oxygen for the diver. Crew attended with the Station Landrover, and took the Inshore Lifeboat by road as a precaution in case the diver was not ashore. Diver was located, and the crew administered oxygen till the arrival of a helicopter. The Lifeboat crew, working with the Local Coastguards, marked the landing site on the beach and transported the diver to the beach, where they handed him into the care of the Helicopter crew, for the flight to Hull. Crew and Landrover+ ILB only by road.
18 Sat Jul 19 10.55pm Seahouses Harbour Master alerted Lifeboat Crew, that a diver from the dive boat "Below Zero", which had been diving on the Blue Caps, at the Farne Islands, had come ashore and was now outside of the Harbour Office, with symptoms of the "Bends",. The diver was given oxygen by the Lifeboat Crew. An ambulance attended, but the diver required immediate transfer by helicopter to the Hull decompression chamber. The diver appeared quite poorly, suffering pains to his head and arms, and was in some distress. He was then transferred by ambulance to the helicopter landing site ,where he was flown by helicopter crew to Hull for treatment. Crew and Landrover only
19 Sun Jul 20 10.50pm Two divers from the dive boat "North Shore", which had been diving at the wreck of the Somali, between Seahouses and Beadnell, now outside of the Harbour Office, and appeared to be suffering symptoms of the "Bends",. The divers were running out of oxygen from their club's supply, and only had one bottle in use. The Lifeboat crew administered oxygen until an ambulance arrived. Divers flown by Rescue Helicopter to Hull for treatment. Crew and Landrover only
20 Sat Jul 26 11.52pm Inshore Lifeboat tasked to incident at Holy Island, where a horse which had thrown its rider, had run into the sea and was reported in difficulty. Coastguard Units at the scene later ascertained that the horse had safely managed to come back ashore, and the Lifeboat was cancelled and returned to station.  ILB only.
21 Sat Jul 26 5.53pm Inshore Lifeboat launched to a woman in difficulties in the water off Bamburgh Castle, in heavy rain. Woman from the Westerhope area of Newcastle, was found in the water, fully clothed and in some distress, in excess of 200 metres from the shore. Woman resisted efforts of the Lifeboat Crew to pull her from the water. Aboard the Lifeboat, she drifted in and out of consciousness. She was very cold and in need of medical attention. At Seahouses harbour, the lady was placed in the station Landrover, and wrapped in blankets to warm her, and was administered oxygen by the Lifeboat Crew. She was then conveyed to hospital for assessment. Without the swift response of the Inshore Lifeboat, it is highly likely that this lady would have quickly drowned.  ILB only.
22 & 23 Sat Aug 9 6.58pm Yacht "Eider" aground in Beadnell Bay, on rocks in thick fog. Towed free by Lifeboats - A second Yacht "Just in Time" was then also found aground on sand bank, and was also towed free. Both Lifeboats
24 Sun Aug 10 1.13pm Local Charter boat "Guide Me" reports a diver aboard with symptoms of the bends. Lifeboat crew put aboard with oxygen, and diver flown by helicopter to Aberdeen for treatment. Both Lifeboats
25 & 26 Tue Aug 12 7.13pm Yacht "Erythesia" and "Omega P" aground in thick fog, south of Holy Island. Assistance given, yacht "Erythesia" towed clear and escorted. Yacht "Omega P" did not require further assistance. Lifeboats returned 3.50am. Both Lifeboats
27 Thu Aug 14 4.23pm Vehicle trapped by tide on Holy Island Causeway. Family of 4 airlifted by Rescue Helicopter minutes before Lifeboat arrived. Personal effects recovered from partially submerged Saab motor car by Inshore Lifeboat Crew.  ILB only.
28 Sat Aug 23 4.06pm Diver with Bends symptoms 69 yr old ashore at Beadnell Car park. Treated by Lifeboat crew, till arrival of ambulance, and then transported to beach, where helicopter flew him to Aberdeen for treatment. Crew and Landrover+ ILB only by road.
29 Sat Sep 6 1.45pm Two Divers with Bends symptoms aboard charter boat "Three Sisters", on way to Seahouses Harbour, assistance requested. Met by Lifeboat Crew and given oxygen, then taken to helicopter landing site, for transfer to decompression chamber at Hull. Crew and Landrover only
30 Sun Sep 14 5.29pm Child Canoeist in difficulty at sea 100 metres off Bamburgh Castle. Safely ashore before arrival of Lifeboat. Rescued by mother entering the water, and pulling him to safety  ILB only.
31 Sun Oct 26 1.46pm Five walkers reported trying to wade across the flooded Holy Island Causeway with a rising tide and strong wind, by concerned onlooker. Walkers safely ashore at Holy Island, on arrival of Lifeboat and Coastguards from Berwick and Seahouses. Coastguards then searched for the walkers to offer safety advice !.  ILB only.
32 Sun Oct 26 3.20pm Diver in severe difficulties in surf off Beadnell. Rescued by Inshore Lifeboat, transferred to Mersey Lifeboat and landed safely at Seahouses. This was a difficult rescue in rough conditions, and not without risk to the Inshore Lifeboat Crew. Aboard the Mersey Lifeboat, the casualty was warmed with a blanket, but didn't require medical assistance. (RNLI Letter of Thanks) Click here for details Both Lifeboats
