The Lifeboat is pulled bow first up the concrete slip by the Tallus Tractor, on rubber skids.

The carriage is pushed in behind the Lifeboat once high enough up the slip.

The winch wire is attached, and the boat is carefully pulled onto the carriage.

The carriage hinges in the centre to allow the boat pull onto it.

The stern about to drop into normal position, being stopped by the stern chain and safety wire.

The boat level, ready to be pushed bow first back to the station, once the skids have been recovered to the trailer.

On 13th Jan 04, a trial of a stern recovery was attempted. Special numbered skids are laid out ready.

At high water, the lifeboat had to be taken onto the roadway, as there was insufficient room on the slip to get the trailer behind the boat. A stern recovery does away with this need.

The numbered skids are laid out ready.

The lifeboat approaches the slip stern first.

The lifeboat approaches the slip stern first. Once beached, the engines are stopped, and a crewman in a drysuit attaches the winch wire.

The Lifeboat is pulled out of the water onto the numbered skids, lifting the keel, so the carriage is ready to have the boat winched onto it.

The Lifeboat is pulled back up onto the carriage.

The operation is a total success, and the boat is now ready to be pulled up off the slip onto the road.
