RNLB 12-16 "Grace Darling" was off station from 24th January to 23rd May 2006, for her 5yr Refit at the Isle of Wight Boatyard, where she was built.
Relief Lifeboat 12-001 "Peggy and Alex Caird", the first aluminium hull Mersey to be built, was on relief duty at our station till her return.
Updated 01/01/2008 11:38hr.

"Grace Darling" ready at Seahouses Harbour on Tuesday 24th January 2006. RNLB 12-001 "Peggy and Alex Caird" arrives at Seahouses, from an early start to her passage from Amble to Seahouses. A quick hand over and RNLB "Grace Darling" 12-16 is on passage to Amble Boat Yard to catch the tide, for a lift out onto the transporter, for the long drive south. The crew split into two, one team bringing the relief boat north, and the other taking our boat south. Note the frost on the pier top at Seahouses, although cold, it was bright, calm, and clear, - excellent weather for a passage.
The Hoist at Amble Boat Company, (an hour's passage south from Seahouses) is a superb facility, making it a simple job to lift a 13 tonne lifeboat onto a low loader !. After a quick fish and chip lunch in Amble Lifeboat Station, it was all aboard the Landrover and back to Seahouses, and back to work ! - And Lifeboat 12-16 "Grace Darling", began her slow road journey south to Poole, then on by sea to the Isle of Wight.

RNLB "Grace Darling" finally returned to Seahouses, to resume duty on 23rd May, 2006. A skeleton crew sailed her all the way, in very poor weather - not the most pleasant of passages ! The boat left the Isle of Wight on Friday 19th May, reaching Dover that night, the next day Lowestoft, the following day Grimsby, then Hartlepool, before reaching Seahouses finally on Tuesday 23rd May, 2006. Relief Boat 12-001 was later taken to Amble Boatyard for some maintenance, before being sent on relief duty to Anstruther, Scotland.
