SECOND CALL-OUT IN 24 HOURS – BROKEN DOWN DIVE RIB

At 13.34hrs on Saturday 25 July 2015, Seahouses Lifeboat Operations Manager was in the boathouse, when he heard a 7mtr Dive RIB (Rigid Inflatable boat) with 9 divers on board, attempting to call local boats on VHF radio Ch 16. No craft were responding, so the L.O.M. called them on the boathouse radio, and enquired if they had a problem. They replied that they had engine failure (possible propshaft problem), just south of Seahouses near the North Sunderland Buoy. He advised them to call Humber Coastguard on Ch 16, so that assistance could be organised for them, which they did. Meanwhile he spoke to Humber Coastguard by phone, and authorised launch of the All Weather Lifeboat “Grace Darling”.

This was the second call in 24 hours for the Seahouses Crew, and the Lifeboat was quickly launched and made its way to the casualty. The RIB was taken in tow, with consent of the skipper, and taken to Beadnell from where it had originally launched. The boat and its crew of divers were landed safely, and the lifeboat returned to station.
