Launch Report 002 - 003/2016
PERSONS CUT OFF BY THE TIDE ON HOLY ISLAND UNSURE OF LOCATION
At 22.21hr on Tuesday 9th February 2016, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses Lifeboats to a report of persons on rocks being cut off by the rising tide, somewhere on the shore at Holy Island. Both Lifeboats were paged for launch in preparation of a search.
At 22.30hr, Humber Coastguard cancelled the lifeboats as they were launching. The persons had been located by local coastguards on Holy Island, and brought to safety. Although they had headlamps, they had become disorientated in the dark and were alarmed by the incoming tide, and feared that they were being cut off, on rocks on the east side of the island.
Seahouses Lifeboat Operations Manager Ian Clayton commented, “We were pleased that Holy Island Coastguards located them so quickly, and all turned out well. In such circumstances, it is important to get search resources in place quickly. Thankfully on this occasion, they were not needed.”
