MAYDAY CALL FROM TWO DIVE BOATS BROKEN DOWN OFF FARNE ISLANDS
At 11.22hrs on Sunday 12 March 2015, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of both Seahouses Lifeboats, following a MAYDAY call for assistance from two dive RIBS (rigid inflatable boats), broken down off the Farne Islands. Their exact position was difficult at first to establish, due to poor radio reception. A local passenger vessel “St Cuthbert 3” had also received the distress call and had responded and located the vessels and had towed them to a safer location near Brownsman Island, pending arrival of the lifeboats on scene. The Inshore Lifeboat “Peter Downes” was first to reach the casualties, and established that no one was in any immediate danger.
The All Weather Relief Lifeboat “Lifetime Care”, arrived soon afterwards, and most of the divers were transferred on board. The two disabled RIBs were then taken in tow back to the launching site at Beadnell, where all persons were landed safely.
Both lifeboats returned to station arriving back at 2pm.
