Launch Report 004/2013
ASSIST AMBULANCE TO REACH HOLY ISLAND
At 07.08hr on Sunday 14 April 2013, Seahouses Lifeboat was requested to launch by Humber Coastguard following a request for assistance from the North East Ambulance Service, to reach a potentially seriously ill male on Holy Island. The causeway was closed due to the tide. The All Weather Lifeboat was launched and awaited the ambulance crew at Seahouses, who were then taken by sea to Holy Island.
The local Coastguard Team on Holy island had also been mobilised, and were ready to transport the ambulance crew on their arrival, to the casualty's location on the island. As the lifeboat arrived at Holy Island, local coastguards suggested that the causeway was now clear enough for a road ambulance to cross. A second ambulance was called and managed to reach the island and the casualty. Due to concerns about the depth of water at the pier at Holy Island, once it was established that the second ambulance crew were attending the casualty, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to Seahouses with the first ambulance crew. The Lifeboat was returned to station at 9.30hr that day.
The RNLI have no information about the casualty, other than initial reports suggested that he was in need or urgent medical attention.
