Call No 006/2013

At 10:18hrs on Sunday 09 June 2013, at the request of Humber Coastguard, Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat was launched on service to assist a local dive boat who had reported a diver with a possible case of the bends, after she had surfaced from a dive. All RNLI Lifeboat Crew are trained as Casualty Medics, and the Lifeboat carries oxygen therapy equipment.

The casualty was located near to the Knivestone, which is part of the Farne Islands.

On arrival at the scene one of the ILB crew boarded the dive boat and gave assistance to the female diver, and administered oxygen to the casualty.

The casualty was airlifted soon after by the RAF Rescue Helicopter from Boulmer, which had arrived on scene, and transported to a decompression chamber at Hull. The lady diver was thought to be quite ill for some while, but has now recovered.

The Lifeboat was then released and returned to station.
