MEDICAL CALL TO ASSIST INJURED WARDEN AT FARNE ISLANDS
At 15:57hr on Tuesday 25 June 2013 Humber Coastguard received a call for assistance from the National Trust Wardens on Brownsman Island, which is one of the Farne Islands. One of the resident wardens had cut his arm on some glass, and required medical assistance. Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats. The Inshore Lifeboat could reach the casualty more quickly, and the crew could give medical assistance until the arrival of the All Weather Lifeboat, which was better suited to transport an injured casualty. All RNLI Lifeboat Crews are trained as Lifeboat Medics, and the Lifeboats carry substantial medical equipment.
On arrival at the scene Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat crew attended to the casualty, and then transferred him to Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat on its arrival.
The casualty was then transported to Seahouses Harbour and handed over to a waiting ambulance crew for further medical attention. He was then conveyed to Wansbeck Hospital for further treatment.
Both Lifeboats then returned to station.
