ASSIST AMBULANCE TO REACH INJURED FEMALE ON HOLY ISLAND
At 18.07hr on Tuesday 23 July 2013, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat. North East Ambulance Control had requested assistance to reach an elderly female at a private hotel on Holy Island (Lindisfarne), who had suffered scalds to her arm and chest, which were reported as being possibly quite severe. An ambulance had been dispatched from Belford Ambulance Station, but the causeway was closed due to the tide. The ambulance was redirected to Seahouses Harbour, in accordance with an agreed NEAS/RNLI protocol.
The Lifeboat Crew were paged for launch, and then awaited the ambulance crew who arrived minutes later. Two ambulance crew and their packs were then transported directly to Holy Island where they were met by local Coastguards, who took them to the casualty's location on the island. The casualty was stabilised, and then transferred to the Lifeboat and brought back to Seahouses Harbour, arriving at 19.55hr. There she was transferred to the ambulance and taken to Wansbeck Hospital for treatment.
The Lifeboat then returned to station.
