LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO ASSIST BROKEN DOWN FISHING BOAT OFF HOLY ISLAND
At 13.19hr on Thursday 9th June 2011, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat, to go to the assistance of the 11mtr fishing vessel “Kalista” with two crew aboard, which had broken down two miles east of Holy Island, and had requested assistance. The Lifeboat was quickly launched, and located the casualty vessel. The fishing boat which was on passage to Arbroath, was taken in tow back to Seahouses.
On reaching Seahouses, due to the low tide, neither the Lifeboat or the casualty vessel, could enter the harbour, and had to anchor off the entrance. Two lifeboat crew (RNLI Mechanics) boarded the “Kalista”, and were able to eventually restart her engine, having located the possible problem. The fishing vessel then was able to continue her passage, with the Lifeboat escorting initially, in case of further engine problems. Once all seemed well, the Lifeboat returned to station at 15.30hr that day.
