ILL DIVER ON SEAHOUSES CHARTER BOAT, REQUIRES ADDITIONAL MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
At 11.43hr on Friday 24th June 2016, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat to go to the assistance of an ill diver aboard a Seahouses Charter vessel near the Farne Islands. A rescue helicopter was being scrambled from its base at Prestwick, but the diver would need further supplies of oxygen until the aircraft could reach the casualty.
Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat was launched with additional oxygen cylinders, and joined the charter vessel. The crew gave the diver assistance, and kept up her supply of oxygen until the aircraft arrived about 50 minutes later. The ILB Crew then assisted the helicopter crew to safely winch the ill diver into the aircraft, which flew her directly to the decompression chamber at Aberdeen. Her husband then had to travel to Aberdeen by road to join her, a long journey having come from near Hull originally.
