DIVE CHARTER VESSEL TAKING WATER AT FARNE ISLANDS
At 11.58hr on Saturday 9th July 2016, information was received at Seahouses Lifeboat station, that a dive charter boat was taking water, near Longstone Island, and the skipper had beached the vessel and was requesting assistance. Humber Coastguard were immediately advised, and both Seahouses Lifeboats launched.
On arrival at the scene, a salvage pump was taken to the vessel by the Inshore Lifeboat, and pumping began to empty the vessel. The party of 9 divers were safe, and transferred to the All Weather Lifeboat which returned to Seahouses to land them safely. The Charter boat was in no immediate danger, and the actions of the skipper had saved the vessel, and avoided a more serious incident. The Inshore Lifeboat remained alongside the casualty, monitoring the salvage pump.
Once the boat had been emptied of water, checks were made to ascertain the cause of the problem. As the tide rose, the vessel was refloated, and escorted by the lifeboats back to Seahouses Harbour where it arrived safely, with no further leaks.
