Launch Report 017/2013
YACHT IN DIFFICULTY SOUTH OF SEAHOUSES
At 14.05hr on Saturday 17 August 2013, Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by Humber Coastguard, to assist a 10 metre yacht with 3 persons onboard, 8 miles south east of Seahouses. The yacht had suffered engine/gearbox failure and although able to make way under sail, it was unable to manoeuvre in restricted areas such as a harbour, so the crew had requested assistance.
The Lifeboat was launched and located the yacht, which was heading towards Seahouses. The yacht skipper was advised to continue towards the harbour at Seahouses, as he was making good headway under sail. The Lifeboat escorted and guided the yacht in safe water until it reached Seahouses, where the sails were lowered, and the yacht was taken in tow by the lifeboat to the harbour, where it was moored safely, so that repairs could be carried out.
The Lifeboat then returned to station.
