YACHT REQUESTS ASSISTANCE AFTER ENGINE FAILURE AND NO WIND
At 21.25hrs on Saturday 3 October 2015, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses All Weather Lifeboat to go to the assistance of a 10m yacht with 5 persons on board. There was very little wind, and the yacht had suffered engine failure at a position reported to be near the Swedman Buoy off the Farne Islands.
Seahouses Lifeboat RNLB Grace Darling was quickly launched, and began a search for the yacht. Initially it was not at the reported position, and the lifeboat crew used their VHF radio direction finding equipment and radar, to locate the vessel, which was actually 7 nautical miles north of Seahouses off Budle Bay. Once located, the welfare of the yacht’s crew was checked, and with the consent of the yacht skipper, the yacht was taken in tow back to Seahouses.Once safely moored at Seahouses, arrangements were made to carry our repairs in daylight.
The lifeboat was rehoused and ready for service by 00.20hr the following morning.
