Launch Report 034/2016
SEAHOUSES LIFEBOAT CALLED TO ASSIST ILL FEMALE DIVER ON LOCAL CHARTER BOAT
At 12:47hr on Sunday 18th September, the Seahouses Duty Launch Authority was paged by Humber coastguard and informed that a local charter vessel had a diver who had surfaced with a serious medical condition. It was agreed to launch the All Weather Lifeboat without delay. Meanwhile a rescue helicopter from Prestwick was being scrambled.
The Lifeboat launched at 12:57 and proceeded to meet the casualty vessel as it approached Seahouses. Two casualty care lifeboat crew were transferred to the vessel to treat the casualty. The vessel was escorted into Seahouses harbour where they were met by a doctor experienced in diving incidents. The casualty was removed on an RNLI stretcher from vessel and transported to a helicopter landing site at Seahouses Golf Club in the RNLI Landrover, escorted by local coastguards. The female was then handed into the care of helicopter crew on their arrival, for onward transportation to the decompression chamber at Aberdeen. The lifeboat crew were then stood down and returned to station.
Our latest information is that the lady is very ill, and currently in intensive care with a suspected pulmonary embolism, the second such incident at Seahouses this year. The crew wish her well for a speedy and full recovery, and our thoughts are with her friends and family at this worrying time.
