MOTORCYCLIST ACCIDENT ON HOLY ISLAND CAUSEWAY IN RISING TIDE

At 1:07pm on Thursday 10th October 2019, UK Coastguard requested the launch of Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat to the report of a motorcyclist who had come off his motor cycle on Holy Island Causeway. He was surrounded by the rising tide.

At 1:14pm the ILB launched on service and made best speed to the location. When half way to the scene, further reports were received that the motorcyclist, who had travelled from the Island, had finally come ashore on the mainland side at Beal. He had reportedly been reluctant to leave his bike with personal effects in the panniers, with water flowing over the handle bars. It appears he had hit a section of water, where the bike’s engine had cut out and he had fallen from the machine.

He was met by local coastguard teams from Seahouses and Berwick, as well as an ambulance, which had also been despatched due to several 999 calls from the public. The Inshore Lifeboat was then cancelled and returned to station at 1.55pm that day. High tide at Holy Island was 2.03pm and safe crossing ended at 12.05pm today.

There are no photographs of the incident, and the RNLI have no information about the motorcyclist’s condition or identity.
